The decision to overhaul Derbyshire County Council’s Web site and intranet was taken as part of a wider project to join up information across all of its services.

This was to meet UK Government strategy for all local UK councils, large or small, to be online and make effective use of technology while delivering services focused on the needs of citizens and business.

Derbyshire County Council already had an existing Web site which was managed by a third party company on a bespoke system. Any changes to content had to be sent from the council to the company who made the updates on their behalf.

In addition to this process there was little knowledge within the council about creating Web content which led to gaps on the Web site and some information becoming out of date.

From the Web site review process came the decision to bring the running of the Web site in-house and use SDL Tridion as the content management solution (CMS).
